The Story:

Golf Coins Plus, LLC, located just east of Seattle in Issaquah, Washington, has offered a full range of ready-made and custom golf-themed products to clients throughout the world since the company was founded in 1999. Founder and partner John Smith started the business around the idea that golf has become the sport of choice for a large segment of the business world. Based on experience, Smith knew that an increasing amount of business is being conducted on fairways, greens, and in clubhouses after a round of golf. To capitalize on this trend, he came up with an idea for a game that could easily be integrated into the game being played on the golf course.

The game would create instant conversation among players and facilitate "soft-selling" of prospects. Smith knew that coins, engraved with various symbols relating to course hazards (sand traps, etc.) were the perfect game pieces. So he sought out a company that specialized in creating custom coins. His search led him to Northwest Territorial Mint.

Northwest Territorial Mint's management and creative teams quickly realized the potential behind Smith's idea. The company's artists immediately began drafting sketches for the game piece coins and, within a matter of weeks, Smith's concept had been transformed into a reality. Today, Golf Coins Plus, LLC sells its unique Golf Coins game to customers around the world.

Northwest Territorial Mint: In The News

Engraving and Goldsmiths

Northwest Territorial Mint: Did You Know?In the European Middle Ages goldsmiths used engraving to decorate and inscribe metalwork. It is thought that they began to print impressions of their designs to record them. From this grew the engraving of copper printing plates to produce artistic images on paper, known as old master prints in Germany in the 1430s. Italy soon followed. Many early engravers came from a goldsmithing background. The first and greatest period of the engraving was from about 1470 to 1530, with such masters as Martin Schongauer, Albrecht Dürer, and Lucas van Leiden.
