Made as a 3 inch medal, Northwest Territorial Mint worked out a cost effective answer that saved a significant sum over minting in pure silver. These medallions were minted in copper, then given nickel plating, then selectively plated in gold, resulting in a very handsome medal.

The Victoria Cross
